Production

The technique of inlay is an ancient and noble art handed down from generation to generation according to the tradition of craft constantly renewing its studies and experiments. Inlay is a decorative composition brought forth by cutting, picking and settling different kinds of wood. Different wood sheets are laid upon each other and the drawing to be inlaid is placed on. Pieces are cut with a fretsaw following the drawing. They are put in a case with warm sand to create a tridimensional effect, to blacken the borders and create shades. After applying the drawing on the top, the box is smoothed with abrasive paper and polished with silicon essences. This procedures guarantees a shining effect. The box is then completed by assembling gold or silver hinges and covering it with soft velvet.
A lovely music tune is set in the music box.
When opening it you can enjoy the magic of its sound and relax.

The origins of our chartreuse art

Inlay work has very old origins. In Greek literature we already read about inlaid objects. Inlaid mother of pearl caskets dated back to the age of the first dynasty have been found in Egypt. Also some pictures with crystal, gold and wood inlay, are kept in some museums of the Crete Island.
In Italy the first examples of inlaid works are dated back to the Roman times. Artisans cut thin little pieces of different kinds of wood combined together in creating different shaped images.
For a long period wood inlaid items were no longer made, but this technique was again introduced and improved during the Middle Ages. During that period a high artistic level was reached introducing a new technique: Perspective. In the past decorations gave the idea of simple geometric combinations, but now they give a special effect of deepthness portraying an outbursting soul. In XIX century the quality of the materials used improves with the use of new techniques. The structure becomes more complicated and the drawings are fancier. They reflect the Art Nouveau Liberty style, paintings and mosaics by Klimt.
